Where should I start a herringbone floor?

Should herringbone be centred on the room or the doorway?
It depends on the room and the visual priority. Room centring can balance perimeter cuts, while an entrance, hallway or important sightline may justify a different axis. Compare the resulting layouts before choosing.
Is the room centre line the same as the herringbone pattern position?
Not necessarily. The room centre can be used as a reference, while the herringbone pattern may need to be positioned relative to that line to produce the intended set-out and perimeter cuts.
